Abstract

The purpose of research was to investigate the mixture of basil oil and starfruit extract for controlling fruit flies at starfruit crop. This research was conducted in Sembawa village, Banyuasin III regency Banyuasin district, from September until December 2007. Completely Randomized Blocked Design (CRBD) was used, in 6 treatments and 4 replications. The observation were species and number of fruit flies trapped, longevity of mixture of basil oil and starfruit extract and identified of fruit flies emerged from attacked starfruit. Two species of fruit flies were identified as Bactrocera carambolae and B. umbrosus. Total number of B. carambolae trapped was 10,714 while total number of B. umbrosus traffed was 9. Application of 0.5 ml of basil oil mixed with 0.5 ml starfruit extract trapped 2,730 (the highest number) with the highest longevity of extract (20.25 days). The lowest one was on application 0.25 ml starfruit extract (5) and the shortest one (0.75 days).
