Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of carrier materials on the effectiveness of the flrngus Metharizium sp. to control the brown plant hopper. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of entomopathogenic Department of Plant Pest and Disease Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University Inderalaya. The study started from January to June 2011. This research uses experimental methods. This study using Random Design Group (RAK) with five treatments including control and five replications. Treatment of the carrier material, namely: (A) Husk ash + Sugar 1%, (B) fme soil + Sugar 1%, (C) fine bran + Sugar 1%, (D) Com flour + Sugar 1%, (E) conidia (Control). The results showed that: Mortality was highest in the carrier fine soil (average 80%) and the lowest occurred in the carrier fine bran (average 67.5%). Although these observations indicate the presence of variations in mortality based carrier, will be tumed out different but statistically not significant. Viability was highest in the carrier material husk ash (65.11%), while the lowest occurred in conidia/control (43.92%). However, despite the difference in nominal viability was not different statistically significant at 1% level, (but significantly different at level 5%). The addition of the carrier causes the viability of conidia of Metarhizium sp. The addition of the carrier can survive. material is a protective or safety of conidia when stored or when applied in the field. The highest density occurs in the carrier conidia/control (average 8.32%) and the lowest occurred in com flour (average 1.6%). The results of these observations indicated a density variation based on the carrier, and was statistically significantly different tums.
