Abstract
Insect pests can damage horticultural plants in many ways. Under tropical conditions, polyphagous insect pests attack several crops, making intensive horticultural production unsustainable. Aphids are major insect pests-ca. 1.500 species-of world agriculture, damaging crops by removing photo assimilates and vectoring numerous devastating plant viruses. Many aphid species, along with several hundred other insect pests, are resistant to insecticides. Recurrent use of Chemical insecticides destabilizes the ecosystem and enhances the development of resistance in aphids population. Resurgence and resistence of aphids following insecticide applications are often attributed to natural enemy disturbance. A study to to assess biodiversity of Aphids and its natural enemies on ornamental crops in two districts in South Sumatra Province, Indonesia, i.e. Pagaralam and Jarai, has been carried out. Study is also aimed to determine the similarity relationship among these sucked insects. There were 11 species of Aphids found, i.e Aphis citricola Van der Goot, Aphis gossypii Glover, Aulacorthum solani Kaltenbach, Macrosiphum rosae L., Myzus persicae Sulzer, Pentalonia kalimpongensis A. N. Basu., Sinomegoura citricola Van der Goot, Sitobion luteum Buckton, Toxoptera aurantii Boyer de Fonscolombe, Toxoptera citricidus Kirkaldy dan Toxoptera odinae Van der Goot. It could be concluded that Aphids found possess very closed relationships each others. It could be shown from the distances among species and proximitry matrices. Predators found were Coccinellidae (Coleoptera) and Syrphidae (Diptera). Aphidiidae (Hymenoptera)is found as parasitoid. Another fmding is simbiotic pattem between black ant (Dolichoderus sp.) and brown ant (Crematogaster sp.) and Aphids.
