Abstract

Knowledge in the community for the use of plants as craft materials by the Lintang Tribe, Empat Lawang Regency, South Sumatra has long used it for generations. The Lintang tribe is one of the tribes on the island of Sumatra that uses plants as craft materials for daily needs. This study aims to determine the types of plants, families, plant organs, habitus, as well as the sources of acquisition and results of handicraft products used by the Lintang community, Empat Lawang Regency. This research was carried out from August 2020 to completion, located in Batu Junggul Village and Suka Dana Village, Muara Pinang District, Empat Lawang Regency, South Sumatra. This research was conducted using a qualitative survey method which was carried out by means of direct interviews with the community consisting of 5 craftsmen as resource persons using questionnaires. Theis results showed that as many as 9 species from 3 families and the largest family, namely Arecaceae as many as 7 plant species (77.7%). The most widely used craft plant organs were stems as many as 5 types of plants (55%). The largest plant habitat is trees with 5 species of plants (56%). The craft plants used were mostly obtained from sources of acquisition, as many as 8 types of plants (88%). The most handicraft products are 5 types of plants (16.6%).
