Abstract
Quenching merupakan salah satu proses untuk meningkatkan kualitas kekerasan produk baja khususnya pada permukaan baja, di suhu austenit. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apakah variasi tingkat kekentalan media pendingin oli dalam proses quenching berpengaruh terhadap nilai kekerasan pada baja aisi 1045. Proses quenching dimulai memanaskan baja aisi 1045 di suhu 820°c, kemudian di-quenching dengan oli sae 40, sae 90 dan sae 140. Material baja aisi 1045 yang telah di-quenching kemudian akan diuji kekerasan vickers, dengan beban 30 kgf, lama penekanan 10 detik dan tiga titik pengujian. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya pengaruh tingkat kekentalan media pendingin oli terhadap kekerasan. Sebagai perbandingan material baja aisi sebelum di-quenching mendapatan nilai kekerasan 7,53 kgf/mm2, sedangkan yang di-quenching oli sae 40 = 10,945 kgf/mm2, oli sae 90 = 8,661 kgf/mm2 dan oli sae 140 = 8,031 kgf/mm2.
