Abstract
Secondary metabolite from ethyl acetate extract of Tinospora crispa stems has been isolated. The extraction was done by maceration, while the separation and purification of isolated compound was done by chromatographic technique. Structural determination of isolated compound was based on the analysis of spectroscopic data of ‘H NMR, l3C NMR, DEPT and compared to literature data. The isolated compound was in the form of white crystals with melting point of 126°C -128 °C. 'H-NMR spectrum showed signals for vinylic and aliphatic specific for steroids compound. 13C-NMR spectrum showed 29 carbon atom signals which were the signal of 2 methilene (CH2) and 27 signals of methyl groups (CH3). According to DEPT spectrum the 29 signals of carbon atom consisted of 3 quatemary carbon signals, 11 tertiary carbon signals (CH), 9 secondary carbon signals (CH2), and 6 primary carbon signal (CH3). Based on the analysis of spectroscopic data and on comparing data to literature, it was concluded that the isolated compound was steroids namely (3-sitosterol with molecular formula C29H50O BM 414 g/ mol.
