Abstract

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world, this is certainly a potential for Indonesia to become the World Maritime Axis. Reflection on the historical experience of our nation, especially the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate, which is able to utilize and control the potential of the waters as a source of defense and self-defense of his territory, Indonesian can use this experience to take advantage of the potential of his waters territory. This research uses the historical approach and is descriptive in nature. The type of data collected from secondary data. The results of this study indicate thatThe factor of Geographical Position allows the South Sumatera waterway to be used as an international sea toll, the factor of Physical Conformation can establish an International Port, the factor of Extent of Territory Indonesian can apply the concept of an underwater defense system, the factors of Character of the Peopleof the and Number of Population community can provide support through promotions to support the potential of maritime tourism, and the factor of Character of Government role of the government is needed to realize a strengthening system in Indonesian waters, so that Indonesia can become a large and prosperous maritime country.
