Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to determine the meaning and position of the audience from the three reader positions, proposed by Stuart Hall through the one of episodes podcast Musuh Masyarakat which discusses “praying is useless”. This research uses a qualitative research method with reception analysis method. Method of data collection using documentation studies and in depth interviews. Whereas the informants were selected based on purposive sampling. The conclusion oh this study shows that informants understand dark jokes as a jokes that discuss taboo and offensive things. Besides, when the informants opinion categorized into three reader positions by Stuart Hall, in this research there are three informant who occupy the negotiating position and one informant in the oppositional position.
