Abstract

The Wood Depot of 3-4 Ulu Urban Village, Palembang City is one of the wood industries that operates in the informal sector on a household scale (home industry). In the process of working, there are still cases of work accidents that are caused by machinery, equipment, unsafe acts and the work environment which have a major impact on workers and depot owners. To prevent work accidents in this business, it is necessary to analyze the potential hazards and risks in the workplace, one of which is by using the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) method. This study aims to analyze the potential hazards and risks in the process of making doors at the Wood Depot of 3-4 Ulu Urban Village, Palembang City using JSA. This research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The sample was determined using a purposive sampling technique with eight informants including two key informants and six informants. Data were collected using interview, observation, JSA Worksheet and hazard observation sheets. The results showed that there are potential hazards and risks at the stages of preparing raw materials, cutting wood, shaving wood, forming and assembling doors, and finishing. The potential hazards and risks identified in the five stages of door manufacturing work include mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, physical hazards, chemical hazards, ergonomic hazards, unsafe action and unsafe conditions with low to extreme risk levels. To prevent work accidents that originate from these hazards, control efforts that can be carried out are by using elimination, substitution, engineering, administration and PPE techniques. The suggestion of this research is that it is necessary to hold OSH training and education for carpenters regarding the use of PPE and the use of wood machines, especially serkel machines.
