Abstract

Marriage of one clan is strictly prohibited in the Batak Toba tribe because the surname is considered as one offspring . However , if this happens in the Batak Toba community , then the marriage is the same as incest ( discordant ) . Customary sanctions cannot be refused by every perpetrator of marriage of one clan , because until now marriage of one clan is still considered taboo and is a violation of customs . This research aims to : 1 ) Determine the factors that cause marriage of one clan in Siallagan Village , 2 ) determine the completion of marriage of one clan according to Batak Toba custom in Siallagan Village , 3 ) determine the sanctions given to marriage of one clan in Siallagan Village . This study uses qualitative descriptive method , with a qualitative approach . The theory of this study uses the theory of structural functionalism by Talcott Parsons . Data collection techniques used are observation , in - depth interviews , and documentation . The results of the study the factors that cause marriage of one clan in Siallagan village are place and environmental factors , education and overseas factors , love factors , economic factors , and religious factors . The settlement of one clan marriage in Siallagan Village is carried out by involving traditional leaders , concerned parents , village heads and also several communities to discuss what punishment is given to the perpetrators of one clan marriage . The sanction for marriage of one clan in Siallagan Village is to be expelled from the village . Keywords : batak toba , marriage of one clan , structural functionalism
