Abstract
The essential oil of Temu Kunci and Kemangi are as sensitive antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. The study aims to determine antibacterial potential of Temu Kunci and Kemangi combination essential oils against with the single use of each essential oil. The test is carried to test the characteristics of physical and chemical. The volatile oil components analyzed using GC-MS. The activity test was carried out by looking for the MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) test with the liquid dilution method, the value of the inhibition zone from the MIC test results for each essential oils singly or in combination, and the FIC value as well data analysis. The results of the characteristic test of Temu Kunci essential oil have a clear yellowish color, while the Kemangi have a yellow color, the odor in each sample has a distinctive odor according to the plant and both have a liquid form. The specific gravity results of the Temu Kunci was 0.949 g/mL, while the Kemangi was 0.912 g/mL. The refractive index of Temu Kunci was 1.4875 and the Kemangi was 1.4807. The results of GC-MS analysis showed that compound high concentration of Temu Kunci was Camphor (26.46%) and Kemangi was Eugenol (40.12%). The results of the MIC test of the single Temu Kunci essential oil of 0.12% with an inhibition zone16±0.816mm, MIC of single Kemangi essential oil of 2% with inhibition zone 12.6±1.247mm, and combined MIC at concentrations of 0.1% and 1.5% with inhibition zones 16.3±1.247mm. FIC value of the combination of essential oils against Propionibacterium acnes of 1.55. Based on statistical analysis, it was concluded that the use of a combination of essential oils was not significantly different from the single use of both.
