Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi karena banyaknya pengguna media sosial yang melakukan pengungkapan diri dengan mengunggah segala bentuk aktivitasnya. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh penggunaan Instagram terhadap keterbukaan diri mahasiswa ilmu komunikasi. Teori yang digunakan yaitu penggunaan media sosial dari Lometti, Reeves dan Bybee dan teori self disclosure dari Wheeless dan Grotz. Teknik yang digunakan yaitu simple random sampling. Analisis data kuantitatif menggunakan SPSS ver 26. Terdapat 91 responden, hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh sebesar 30,5% antara penggunaan Instagram terhadap keterbukaan diri mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Sriwijaya. Berdasarkan penghitungan uji korelasi diperoleh hasil 0,552 yang berada pada interval 0,41 -0,60 dengan tingkat korelasi sedang atau dengan kriteria t hitung t tabel yaitu 6,249 1,662. Persamaan model regresi dalam penelitian ini adalah Y = 20,202 + 0,960x. Kata Kunci: Penggunaan Instagram, self disclosure
