Abstract

The disease COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 which has spread rapidly worldwide. Especially among the elderly, the elderly are the group most vulnerable to COVID-19. The vulnerability of the elderly is caused by a decrease in body resistance and the presence of comorbid diseases. This study aims to determine the comorbidities and risk factors for COVID-19 death in the elderly in Palembang City. This type of research is quantitative research with a descriptive analysis method using secondary data (Sisugi) of the Palembang City Health Office in 2021 with a sampling technique that uses a total sampling technique. The sample in this study was all the elderly and elderly in the city of Palembang who met the inclusion criteria totaling 285 people. The results of the univariate analysis showed that 285 elderly and elderly in the town of Palembang were confirmed positive for COVID-19 and from 100 cases there were 15 cases of case fatality rate (CFR) in the elderly and elderly in the city of Palembang. The risk of the highest mortality rate in the elderly aged 70-75 years is 38.5 per 100,000 pre-elderly and elderly populations. The risk of death rate per gender tends to be higher in men aged 65 years and over than in women. Then the highest morbidity rates are at the age of 65-69 years and 70-75 years, each of which is 1.3 per 1000 elderly populations. Of the 100,000 elderly and elderly residents, there are 94 affected by COVID-19 in the city of Palembang. It is also known that the death rate caused by COVID-19 in 100,000 pre-elderly and older people is 14.1 the death rate of COVID-19 in the elderly and elderly. Comorbid hypertension (43.5%), diabetes (23.9%), and heart (19.6%) had a higher risk of dying if infected with COVID-19. Male gender, old age, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease have a higher risk of death in the elderly and the elderly with COVID-19 in the city of Palembang. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for maintaining health, especially in the elderly with comorbidities, to prevent susceptibility to COVID-19 and reduce the risk of death.
