Abstract

This study aims to see how the efforts made by Indonesia in overcoming the illegal imported used clothes originating from Singapore which spread throughout Indonesia. This study focuses on the issue of used clothing where used clothing is one of the most common issues and even becomes a trend among the community. Used clothes are waste that is thrown away by other countries and accommodated by Indonesia. Imported used clothing is an illegal act, this is because used clothing has a negative impact on society, such as health, economy, and state security. This study uses the concept of securitization proposed by Barry Buzen and Ole Waever as a rationale. The method used in this study uses a descriptive-qualitative method where the author explains the problems that occur and is in accordance with the existing data and then described by the author in accordance with the theory used by the author. Sources of data used by the author in this study using secondary data in the form of journals, books, news websites, official websites, research articles, and reports obtained from various parties. The author's data collection technique is literature. The results obtained by the author in this study, it can be seen that Indonesia has implemented policies and enacted a law on illegally imported used clothing, and discussed the impact of used clothing on the community through the mass media. Secondhand clothes are the highest threat and can have implications for society. The smuggling of used clothes into Indonesia mostly comes from Singapore. It is easier for used clothing smugglers to smuggle because Singapore is close to Indonesia. Actions taken by the Indonesian government by conducting water patrols in areas prone to the spread of used clothing imported by Singapore.
