Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways in which many cells and cellular elements play a role, especially mast cell, eosinophil, and limphosit T. Asthma as one of the allergic disease continuous to be a major public health problem in developed and developing countries including Indonesia. The aim of this study was to asses the characteristic of socio-demographic of asthma patients in Children Polyclinic in RSMH. Method: The descriptive study was held from November to December 2011, in Medical Reccrd and Department of Pediatric Mohammad Hcesin Hospital during 01 January 2008 - 30 November 2011. These samples were taken using total sampling. Data was entered in distributive frequency using P AS W version 18. Result: From 106 children who were diagnosed with asthma, males (56,6%) were higher than females (43,4%). The highest amount of cases belong to the age group 5-10 years (52,8%), 11-15 years (23,6%), 1-5 years (17%), >15 years (4,7%) and the lowest age was <1 years (1,9%). Most of patients came from outside of Palembang (17,9%). Most of patients came from Sukarame district (14,2%). The common age for males was 6-10 years, then followed by 11-15 years, 1-5 years, >15 years, and <1 years. The highest amount of cases for females belong to the age group 6-10 years, then followed by 1-5 years, 11-15 years, and had the same amount in age group <1 years and >15 years. Conclusions: The highest amount of cases belong to the age group 5-10 years male and the most of patient came from Sukarame district.
