Abstract

Introduction. Depression can happen to anybody anytime in their daily life, including to college student. Depression is covered under part of the mood disorder. Depression is a group of negative thoughts consisting of negative attitudes and negative sel f confidence, negative belief on world and future. Depression is one of psychological sicknesses that has a high prevalence, at least one out of five people ever experience depression in their life. Many factor can cause depression. Depression can gives various effects, for example it can affect negatively college student leaming concentration. This research was intended to find out the number of depression occurances on college student “Bidik Misi” program Batch 2010, staying at college student dormitory, Inderalaya Metode. This study population was all of college student of Bidik Misi Program batch 2010 amounting 266 people. The number of samples taken as many as 105 people by means of the number of 266 college students were selected based on criteria of inclusion and exclusion criteria. And than do the proportional stratified random sampling. This research was the descriptive one using primary data taken through the questionnaire of Hamilton Depession Rating Scale. The questionnaire consisted of items about depression occurance. The score Interpretation was based on HDRS: 0—6 (Not Depression); 7—16 (Mild Depression); 17—24 (Moderate Depression); >24 (Severe Depression). Result. The result obtained from 105 respondents indicated that depression on the college student of “Bidik Misi” program batch 2010, staying at college student dormitory, Inderalaya were as not depression 34,4%, mild depression 55,2%, moderate depression 10,5%, and severe depression 0%. Based on the age category, the most frequent depression occurance, the most frequent depression on the 19 year old college students. Based on the sex category, the most frequent depression occurance, the most frequent depression on male college students.Based on the economy category or the parent’s income category, the most frequent depression occurance was on the college students whose parents got low income. Based on the religiousness, the most frequent depression occurance, the most ffequent depression was the college students who were not too religous. Conclusion. Prevalence of depression research subject was high, the most dominating is mild depression, and not found severe depression on the research subject.
