Abstract

Background: Postpartum hemorrhage is defined as a blood loss more than 500 ml after the delivery of the baby. Postpartum hemorrhage is the single most important cause of the maternal death all over the world, both developed and developing countries. In Indonesia, postpartum hemorrhage is responsible for the 10-20% of maternal death. Despite the risk factors of postpartum hemorrhage has been identified a lot, information about the charactertics of postpartum hemorrhage patients in Moehammad Hoesin General Hospital is still very limited. Objective: To identify pattem of mother giving birth with postpartum hemorrhage patients in Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Moehammad Hoesin General Hospital in 2011. Method: This study is an observational descriptive study with case series. Results: There were 51 cases of hemorrhage postpartum in Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Moehammad Hoesin General Hospital during year 2011. The characteristics of the patients are in low risk age category, multigravid, multiparity, enough pregnancy distance, spontaneous labor, abnormal placental detachment, normotension, anemic, with midwives as their birth attendant in had a labor outside the hospital. Conclusion: Pattem of mother giving birth of postpartum hemorrhage patients which has been quite signifiant consist of multiparity, abnormal placental detachment, anemic, and have midwives as their birth attendant. Therefore, a further study about the relationship of those factors and the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage is needed.
