Abstract
Background: Baby is golden time for children’s growth and development. To optimize that a child needs good eating patems. According research in Palembang, 6% children aged 0-6 months who received formula feeding had obese. This study aims to determine early formula feeding effect on 6 and 12 months old children’s weight gain. Methods: This study uses an analytical observational research with cross sectional design and was done during October to November 2012 in posyandu of Lorok Pakjo, Ilir Barat 1 District, Palembang- Samples were taken with consecutive sampling technique in some posyandu ofLorok Pakjo. Results: Found 96 children with description : 28 children aged 6 months and 68 children aged 12 months. Scope of early formula feeding was 45 children (46,9%). Children aged 6 months who received breastfeeding and early formula feeding have average weight (7.688,24 gram) higher than children who received early formula feeding (7.600 gram) and children who received exclusive breastfeeding (7.200 gram). Children aged 12 months who received early formula feeding have average weight (9.100 gram) higher than children who received breastfeeding and early formula feeding (8.992 gram) and children who received exclusive breastfeeding (8.404,88 gram). Average weight on children aged 6 and 12 months who received early formula feeding higher than children who received exclusive breastfeeding Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between early formula feeding on weight gain of children aged 6 and 12 months.
