Abstract
Urinary tract infection is a disease that can occur in men and women of all ages. This disease can be treated with antibiotics. Problems encountered in the use of antibiotics is the emergence of resistant germs. The bacterial sensitivity pattern to antibiotics have a role in the treatment of infectious diseases. This study aims to determine the sensitivity pattern of bacteria which cause urinary tract infection at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital in Palembang. This is a retrospective descriptive study by analyzing secondary data from the patient's urine culture results which has examined at the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory of UNSRI Medical Faculty / Dr. Moh. Hoesin Hospital Palembang in period of July to September 2011. From a population of 550, we found 307 patients with UTI caused by bacteria (56.2%). Female patients (50.8%) are more than male patients (49.2%>) while the majority is the adult age group (51.5%). The majority of bacteria that cause UTI is a gram-negative (69.1%). Most bacteria are Escherichia coli (30.9%). Most of the bacteria tested was resistant to various classes of antibiotics such as penicillins, cephalosporins, cotrimoxazole, and quinolones group. Most of the bacteria are still susceptible to amikacin. Gram-positive are susceptible to vancomycin and gram-negative are susceptible to imipenem.
