Abstract
Plants make a response to their ever-changing environment. The phenomenon of tropism that occurs in plants aims to reposition the organs responsible for the production of their energy sources. Tropism can certainly be found in the corn species (Zea mays (L.) Var. Saccharata), but the tendency of the type of tropism possessed by the corn radicle cannot be ascertained, thus research is needed. Research on the nature of radicular tropism is carried out to determine whether the actual growth direction of the radicle which is generally downward is caused by the nature of geotropism or due to the nature of hydrotropism. This research was carried at the Experimental House from October to November 2021. The research stages consisted of soaking corn seeds for 12 hours to trigger germination in the seeds, planting 30 samples of sample seeds on single pipe method with details of 2 experiments and 15 repetitions, giving treatment to the sample in the form of dripping aquades cotton pads on the top of single pipe medium as much as 1 times per day for 4 days, and analyzed the results of the sample data using a 2-way T-test. Corn (Zea mays (L.) Var. Saccharata) ‘s radicle shows its tropism is more dominant to the gravitational stimuli (geotropism) than water stimuli (hydrotropism) and the addition of aquadest only has an effect on the length of the radicle, not the tropism response.
