Abstract
Sharp force trauma is caused by sharp objects or objects having a sharp edge or comer. Sharp force wounds occur as chop wounds, slash wounds and stab wounds. Until now, there has been no study on the characteristics of sharp force trauma observed on victims of sharp force wounds at the Forensic Department of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang, therefore the aim of this study is to observe those characteristics of sharp force trauma. Method : This was adescriptiveobservation based on data in visum et repertum of sharp force trauma victims. The research sampleswere homicide victims reported and examined from 2007 - 2011. The variables in this study were age groups, gender, anatomic regions, most frequent wound type based on anatomic location, number of wounds, addresses and occupations of the victims. The collected data will be presented in tables, charts anddescriptions. Results : A total of 72victims were determined as samples in this study. In this study, the most frequent age group was 21-30 years (37,5%), males were the most frequent gender recorded (91,7%), the thorax was the most frequently affected (51,4%), most commonly by stab wounds (44,4%),single trauma victims (40,3%), in Palembang (87,5%),and most of the victims worked in the private sector (26,3%). Conclusion : It can be concluded that males are more frequent victims of sharp force trauma, most sharp force trauma occurs on the thoracic region, most sharp force trauma on the thorax are stab wounds, most trauma victims suffer from single trauma, most of the victims live in Palembang and most victims worked in the private sector.
