Abstract
Background: Colorectal carcinoma is a malignant tumor of epithelial type, which number three in the prevalence of all types of carcinoma in the world. However, there is no sufficient data on colorectal carcinoma in Indonesia, especially in Palembang. The fact of inadequate data on colorectal carcinoma as well as an opportunity to make a prevention due to slow progresivity. This study was the relationship of constipation with or without hematoscezia against the incidence of colorectal carcinoma. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of constipation and hematoschezia as well as the significance of constipation with or without hematoschezia in order to diagnose colorectal carcinoma. Methods: An obsevational analytical method with cross sectional design was used in performing the study. The population were all colorectal carcinoma patients who were treated in The Department of Internal Medicine RSMH Palembang. The sample of the study were all populations from lst January 2007 to 30th September 2012. The total were 42 patients, based on the minimal sample calculation formulas, which is choosed by using consecutive sampling method. The data was taken on November 2012 to December 2012 in The Depatment of Medical Record RSMH Palembang. Results: This study found that the colorectal carcinoma mostly found at the S1*1 decade of age (30.95%). The ratio of male against female patients with colorectal carcinoma was 1,3:1. The study also found that most of colorectal carcinoma were located in the region of the sigmoid colon (60%) and adenocarcinoma (95.62%) as its most types, The symptoms of constipation found in 83.33% of colorectal carcinoma patients, which nearly 60% of patients have no symptoms of hematoschezia in medical history. Conclusion: History of constipation is more accurate in determining colorectal carcinoma as the working diagnosis, compared with hematoschezia.
