Abstract

Background: Malnutrition is a common but frequently under-diagnosed condition among elderly. MNA is an instrument that used to detect malnutrition and its risk in elderly but MNA still rarely used in Indonesia. The aims of this study is to determine characteristic sociodemographic and clinic of elderly in Panti Werdha Dharma Bakti Palembang and Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Teratai Palembang. Methods: Descriptive observational study with cross sectional design. Data were collected by interviewing tlie subjects use questiomiaire MNA and measuring anthropometrics of the subjects. The population of this studies were all people in Panti Werdha Dharma Bakti Palembang and Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Teratai Palembang and those who were in inclusion criteria being the subject of study. Results: Out of 64 people subject studies based on MNA, 54,7% was at risk of malnutrition which was female more common than male, 28,1% was malnutrition which was male more common than female. Based on BMI, 26,6% was underweight and 12,5% was overweight. 31,25% who was at risk of malnutrition were in elderly category, 37,5% elderly have hypertension, and 79,6% experienced tooth loss. Conclusions: The most common nutritional status in elderly was at risk of malnutrition based on MNA. The risk of malnutrition was more ffequent in female than male and most common in elderly group. The most common chronic disease in elderly was hypertension whereas oral condition was tooth loss.
