Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh salinitas terhadap kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan benih kuda laut (H. kuda). Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan September sampai dengan bulan November 2008, bertempat di laboratorium kuda laut Balai Besar Pengembangan Budidaya Laut Lampung Propinsi Lampung. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 5 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan yaitu P1 (26 ± 0,5 ppt), P2 (28 ± 0,5 ppt), P3 (30 ± 0,5 ppt), P4 (32 ± 0,5 ppt) dan P5 (34 ± 0,5 ppt). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan salinitas media pemeliharaan benih kuda laut tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap kelangsungan hidup benih kuda laut, tetapi berpengaruh nyata terhadap pertumbuhan panjang dan berat benih kuda laut. Salinitas media 30 ± 0,5 ppt memberikan pertumbuhan tertinggi dengan panjang (0,92 cm) dan berat (0,0828 gram). Salinitas 30 ± 0,5 ppt menghasilkan pertambahan rata-rata panjang dan berat tertinggi 0,92 cm dan 0,0828 gram. Hasil pengukuran kualitas air adalah temperatur (28 - 28,5 °C), pH (8,03 - 8,32), DO (3,14 - 3,69 mg l-1) and amonia (0,00016 - 0,333 mg F-1).
