Abstract

Background: Chronic tonsillitis was an inflammation of the tonsils and occur repeatedly. Tonsillitis commonly occurs in children and could also occur in adults. Chronic tonsillitis was an infection that is most commonly found in the pharynx. This study aims to determine the clinical presentation of chronic tonsillitis in Otolaryngology Departement of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital in period of July 2012-July 2013. Methods: This research was a descriptive observational research using secondary data, namely data from medical records of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang period July 2012-July 2013. The data used as the data of 122 patients diagnosed with chronic tonsillitis. Results: The prevalence of chronic tonsillitis diseases at Otolaryngology Departement of Mohammad Hoesin Hospital 1.29%. Most chronic tonsillitis on the female sex as much as 66 samples (54.1%), 11-20 years age group were 58 samples (47.5%), the main complaint flavor lump in the throat as much as 94 samples (77.0%), symptoms clinical sense of a lump in the throat as much as 101 samples (36.9%), tonsil size T3 total of 133 samples (54.5%), and management of the type of surgery (tonsillectomy) 54 samples (44.3%). Conclusion: The main complaints and clinical symptoms to most common in chronic tonsillitis was a lump in the throat. Tonsil size which most numerous in chronic tonsillitis was T3, and management of the most common types was surgery (tonsillectomy).
