Abstract

Background: Vitamin A is one of the important nutrients that contributes to the body. Diarrhea in patients with a deficiency of vitamin A can cause damage to the intestinal mucosa absorption disorder that can cause increased pressure in the intestinal lumen. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of vitamin A supplementation on diarrhea in Sukarami Public Health Center Palembang. Methods: This research is a cross-sectional analytic study by concecutive sampling using primary data from questionnaires in November-December 2013 which appropriate the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed with t-test using SPSS 19.0. Result: Obtained 60 samples with 43 children (71,7%) who were given vitamin A and 17 children (28,3%) who did not receive vitamin A. mean of Iong diarrhea in infants who were given vitamin A supplementation was 5,06�}1,66 days. The mean of long diarrhea in infants who were given vitamin A supplementation was 4,32�}1,26 days faster recovery compared with infants who did not receive vitamin A was 6,94�}0,89 days (P=0,000). Conclusion: Diarrhea in infants who received vitamin A supplementation heal faster than infants who did not receive supplemental vitamin A.
