Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not the influence of the summarizing training camp technique on the ability to summarize the contents of explanatory texts in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 22 Palembang. This study uses a quasi-experimental method. The study sample consisted of two classes namely class VIII. 5 as an experimental class with 30 students taught using summarizing training camp techniques. Class VIII. 7 as a control class totaling 30 students who were taught using conventional techniques. Data collection techniques use test techniques. Processing data using t-test calculations through the SPSS 25 statistical analysis program. The results showed that there were differences in test results between the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class gets an initial test score of 48.17 and the control class 49.17. The average value of the final test of the experimental class is 64.50 and the control class is 56.17. From the results of the t-test calculations that prove that tcount > ttable = 3,748 > 2.002 at df = 58 with a success rate of 95% (α = 0.025). This shows that the ability to summarize the contents of the explanatory text in the experimental class has increased. Therefore, based on the hypothesis that says "there is a difference in the ability to summarize the contents of the explanatory text using the summarizing training camp technique" in class VIII Palembang State Middle School 22, accepted.
