Abstract

Stres merupakah hasil dari reaksi fisiologis dan adaptasi terhadap ancaman yang dirasakan pada mental, fisik, atau spiritual seseorang. Stres sudah menjadi suatu kondisi yang umum dialami setiap orang, tak terkecuali mahasiswa pendidikan dokter. Penelitian yang dilakukan di berbagai negara menyimpulkan bahwa sekitar lebih dari 30% mahasiswa pendidikan dokter mengalami stress. Dalam mengatasi stres dan gejala yang ditimbulkan, perlunya ada mekanisme koping (coping mechanism) yang bertujuan untuk mengatasi stresor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui mekanisme koping terhadap stres yang dilakukan pada mahasiswa pendidikan dokter angkatan 2019 di Universitas Sriwijaya. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan proses pengambilan data melalui wawancara mendalam. Informan penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa program studi pendidikan dokter angkatan 2019 di Universitas Sriwijaya. Mekanisme koping yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa yang menjadi informan bervariasi dan tidak terpaut pada jenis kelamin, usia, ataupun kondisi sosioekonomi. Alasan memilih mekanisme koping adalah berasal dari pengalaman sendiri yang mencoba kegiatan tertentu serta berfokus dengan bagaimana kegiatan tersebut dapat mengalihkan dampak fisik atau emosional dari stres tersebut. Koping yang dilakukan oleh informan masih termasuk ke jenis koping yang maladaptif. Meski pun mengalami kesadaran penuh akan koping maladaptif, para informan tetap memilih koping tersebut karena sudah sangat efektif. Mahasiswa informan masih menggunakan koping sebagai pengalih dampak fisik dan emosional dari stres secara temporer serta di antaranya masih melakukan jenis koping yang maladaptif.
