Abstract

Background : Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type 2 is a chronic disease which has many complications. WHO (world health organization) States that almost 200 million people in the world suffer DM type 2 and this number will be increase to 350 million by 2020. Currently, Indonesia is in the fourth rank in the world which has 8 million people suffer DM type 2 and study shows that this number might be increased to 21 million in 2025. The objective of this study was to determine rationality of using oral antidiabetic (OAD) for DM type 2 patients in Diatari Medika Clinic which located at Ilir District of East II Palembang from January 2010 to October 2011. Methods : This drug utilization study has been done at Diatari Medika Clinic from November until December 2011. This research’s population focuses on the DM type 2 outpatient medical records from January 2010 until October 2011. This study drawn 50 medical records which inclusive requirements as the sample. The main analysis is based on Descriptive Statistic Method in which some variable will stay as numerical variable and some will eventually change to categorical variable. Result: It can be seen from 50 outpatient medical records, there are 26 female (52%) and 24 male (48%); the age range of 51-60 years old most of them suffer DM type 2. There were 42 cases (84%) use the single OAD utilization pattem while 8 other cases used the combined drugs (16%). Moreover 54 of 58 prescriptions (93,1%) consumed patent drug and the rest (6,9%) consume generic. There were many types of OAD usage in the clinic, 42 cases (72,4%) used Sulfonylurea, 13 cases (22.4%) used Alpha Glycosidase Inhibitor, and 3 cases (5.2%) used Biguanide. Duration of administration OAD for 7 days occurs in 26 cases (44.8%), 10 days occurs in 25 cases (43.1%), and 14 days occurs in 7 cases (12.1%). There were 46 interaction occur between OAD with other drugs. 18 of them (39.13%) was antagonist, 25 (32.61%) was synergist interaction, 13 (28.26%) was potentiation interaction. Conchision : There was irrational pattem OAD which is 54 prescriptions (93.1%) consumed patent drug and the antagonist interaction between OAD and other drugs occurs in 18 interaction (39.13%), duration of administration OAD 14 days occurs in 7 cases (12,1%).
