Abstract
Urinary tract infection is an infection of the upper or lower urinary tract, in which the number of bacteria is >105 colonies per milliliter of bacteria (CFU/ml) in one urine specimen. The main treatment for UTIs is antibiotic therapy to prevent the infection from getting worse and to completely destroy the infecting microorganism. One of the antibiotics that is often used in health facilities is the fluoroquinolone group. In the fluoroquinolone group, one of the third most prescribed antibiotics in Indonesia is ciprofloxacin. This study aims to determine the pattern of ciprofloxacin use which includes dosage, duration of administration and characteristics of urinary tract infection patients receiving ciprofloxacin therapy. Looking at the research on the pattern of ciprofloxacin use in UTI patients, there are still few in South Sumatra, especially the city of Palembang. This descriptive research in the form of a study on patterns of drug use was conducted at the Mohammad Hoesin Hospital in Palembang from November 2022 to December 2022. There were 31 samples that met the inclusion criteria. The sampling method is total sampling. All of these data will be analyzed using SPSS v24 in the form of a frequency distribution. In this study, the characteristics of Urinary Tract Infection patients who used ciprofloxacin were the age group 56-64 years (33.3%), women (54.2%), high school graduates/equivalent (41.9%). The rationality of using ciprofloxacin was based on the criteria for the right dose (100%), the right frequency of administration (100%), the right duration of administration (100%), the right method of administration (100%), and the right drug interactions (66.6%). The rationality of using ciprofloksasin is based on the criteria for the right dose (100%), the right frequency of administration (100%), the right duration of administration (100%), the right method of administration (100%), and the right drug interactions (66.6%).
