Abstract
Introduction: Indonesia has various type of traditional medicine. In Pagaralam city, South Sumatera, bandotan had been used as wound healer for a long time. Until today bandotan has not been regislralcd lo the formulatoriwn of Indonesian Herbal medicine (Scientified Herbal Drug). Based on that fact observer aims to explore the use of bandotan further by Pagaralam people, hopely the result may help completing the data for the scientification of bandotan forward. Method: This research was an observational descriptive study on the population of people in Pagaralam who had ever used the plant bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides L) as a wound healer. Sampling technique of this study was multistages sampling design and most samples were 225 people. Results: Respondent know bandotan and the use of it as a wound healer (100%). People admit bandotan leaf is proven to heal wound (I 00%). Some of respondents do not wash the plant (49,3%) and do not use any certain instrustion such as the amount of the plant, refine level, and the facility use for drug processing (100%). People use bandotan by stick it to the wounded area (100%). No contraindication (100%), but side effect found by some respondent (48,9%) such as ligh pain. Conclusion: People knowledge of bandotan is fair deep. Bandotan leaf admitted to heal a wound. Material preparation and the process of it is not qualified yet as a herbal drug production. The use of bandotan is by sticking it directly to the wound. There is no contraindication found, but side effect such as light pain for some user.
