Abstract
Background: Self treatment is a medication that is used to overcome minor injuries. Free analgesic medicines are medicines that are widely used freely as it does not require any medical receipts from a doctt:r. Examples of fr e analgesic medicines are parasetarnol, aspirine and many more. Hence, self treatment should include sufficient knowledge of the medicine so that the self treatment is effective, safe and complications could be avoided. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to measure the relationship between the knowledge and attitude with the usage of free analgesic medicines for self treatment among the students of the Medical Faculty Batch 2012 Non Reguler Sriwijaya University. Method: A cross-sectional with analytic research was conducted at the Medical Faculty Of Sriwijaya University during the mof!.th of November and December. There were 96 _students_ which were selected to be the sample in this research. The analysis of data was done by using the SPSS software version 16.0. Result: It was found that 54 respondents (56,25%) had low knowledge as well as negative attitude towards the usage of free analgesic medicines for self treatment. From the statistical research, it was found that there were no significant relation!-ihip between knowledge and attitude with the usage of free analgesic medicines for self treatment. Conclusion: Hence, it can be concluded that the knowledge and attitude among the students of theedical Faculty Batch 2012 Non Reguler Sriwijaya University was low and poor respectively towards the usage of free analgesic medicines and this causes the poor usage of free analgesic medicines for self treatment.
