Abstract

This study examines "Community Empowerment Through Handicrafts From Used Drink Cup In Village III Kota Baru, Penukal Utara District, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir District". This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in the from observation, interviews and documentation. The purpose of this study was to find out the marketing processes and strategies used by groups of housewives in developing handicrafts from used drinking cups. The concept used in this research is from Ayub M. Padangaran's empowerment process (2011). The results of this study indicate tha Community Empowerment Through Handicrafts From Used Drink Cup In Village III Kota Baru, Penukal Utara District, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency consist of 1) Awareness stage, in this stage the village government provides outreach to groups of housewives to build awareness that the skills possessed are a potential that can be developed to achieve a better standard of living. 2) Capacity building, at this stage the village government has not provided assistance or opened training because the village government is still focusing on food security in village III Kota Baru, so that groups of housewives independently develop these crafts. 3) Empowerment, the village government provides opportunities for groups of housewives to be able to develop handicrafts in accordance with their abilities on an ongoing basis in order to achieve independence. The marketing strategy used in developing handicrafts from used drinking cups is social media such as Facebook and WhatApp (WA) and through PALI EXPO Keywords: Community Empowerment, Used Drink Cups, Handicrafts.
