Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi beberapa karakteristik agronomi populasi tanaman hasil persilangan jagung berkadar protein tinggi dan toleran tanah masam. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Desa Tanjung Seteko Kecamatan Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, Sumatera Selatan pada bulan Januari sampai April 2009. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 8 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Faktor yang diteliti berupa populasi tanaman jagung hasil persilangan diallel antara populasi berkadar protein tinggi dengan populasi toleran terhadap tanah masam (Toray-1, Toray-2, GS-5, GS-10). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa populasi jagung hasil persilangan antara jagung berkadar protein tinggi dengan jagung toleran tanah masam secara memiliki karakteristik agronomi yang baik dan relative seragam serta memiliki kadar protein yang tinggi yaitu 8,45 % sampai 10,5 % dengan potensi hasil 4,34 ton/ha sampai 5,29 ton/ha. Berdasarkan pada kadar protein, populasi yang terbaik adalah berasal dari persilangan GS-5 x Toray-1 (Pl) dengan kadar protein mencapai 9,92 %.
