Abstract
Diarrhea is one of the health problems that is still widespread worldwide, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. Environmental sanitation that does not meet the requirements supported by poor personal hygiene can lead to health problems such as diarrhea. The incidence of diarrhea in children under five in the working area of the Palemraya Health Center is still relatively high. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between environmental sanitation and maternal personal hygiene with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (12–59 months) in the working area of the Palemraya Public Health Center, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency. This research is quantitative research with a cross-sectional study design. The sample in this study amounted to 126 respondents. Sampling using a purposive sampling technique with data analysis using the chi-Square test and fisher exact. The results showed that the incidence of diarrhea in children under five in the working area of the Palemraya Health Center was 42 people (33.3%). Factors related to the incidence of diarrhea in children under five were clean water facilities (p = 0.005), SPAL conditions (p = 0.008), the mother's habit of washing hands (p=<0.0001), and the mother's practice in managing food (p = 0.001). Meanwhile, there was no relationship between garbage disposal facilities (p = 0.689), latrine conditions (0.411), or the cleanliness of the mother's nails (p = 0.333). Based on these results, it can be concluded that the factors of clean water facilities, SPAL conditions, mother's habit of washing hands, and mother's practice in managing food are variables that influence the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in the work area of the Palemraya Health Center, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency.
