Abstract

Palm oil is one of the plantation crops that is highly relied on because it can become the largest foreign exchange earner in Indonesia. However, the productivity of oil palm in Indonesia often decreases due to pests and diseases. One of the important pests of oil palm is the horn beetle Oryctes rhinoceros. attack by the horn beetle O. rhinoceros on oil palm plantations can reduce yields by 60% at the first harvest and cause death by 25% in immature plantations. One of the effective and efficient biological control is by using B. thuringiensis as a bio-insecticide. Media that can be used as a medium for B. thuringiensis propagation are household organic wastes such as coconut water and cow biourine. The purpose of this study was to determine the spore density of B. thuringiensis which was tested by treating old coconut water and cow biourine, to determine the mortality rate of O. rhinoceros larvae and the weight of the larvae tested using bioinsecticides with different concentrations. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) method with 6 treatments repeated 4 times, so that 24 treatment units were obtained, each consisting of 10 O. rhinoceros larvae as test insects. The results of research conducted on the highest mortality were found in insecticide treatments with the active ingredient Diazinon 60 EC, a contact and stomach poison insecticide in concentrated form which can be emulsified to control pests. Whereas for the bioinsect treatment the highest mortality rate was in the 20 ml Bioinsect treatment. Symptoms of attack that occur due to B.thuringiensis attack on O.rhinoceros larvae can cause the larvae to become stiff and inactive due to loss of appetite so that the larvae will die with a softened body condition, secrete a liquid with a pungent odor, and the color changes to blackish brown.
