Abstract

Background: Ciprofloxacin is one antibiolic that is widely circidated in Indonesia. CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) estimates aboui 50 million of the 150 million patients each year have been prescribed unnecessary antibiotics. Inaccuracy in prescribing antibiotics can lead to failure to achieve the goals of therapy, increased Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) of ciprofloxacin in combination with certain drugs, increasing antibiolic resistance, and increased medical budget. However, there is no specific data that assess the rationality of the use of ciprofloxacin. Methods: A Drug Utilization Study use of prescription drugs through analysis at Instalasi Farmasi RSMH, Apotek Sehat Bersama and Apotek Graha Spesialis which has been done for 3 months. It obtained 600 prescriptions containing ciprofloxacin for samples in this study. Results: Of the 600 samples had been found about 26 samples (4.333%) irralional dose distribution of using ciprofloxacint a total of 61 samples (10.176%) about irralional frequency distribution of ciprofloxacin administration, as many as 523 samples (95.5%) irralional distribution of the duration of ciprofloxacin, a total of 29 samples (2.851%) that interact pharmacodynamic synergy addition, 9 samples (0.885%) that antagonistic pharmacodynamic interaclion, and 193 samples (18.977%) that interact pharmacodynamic potentiation. Conclusion: There are high incidence of the use of ciprofloxacin potentiation pharmacodynamic interaclion with other drugs and there are improper use of ciprofloxacin in the dose, frequency of administration, duration of administration, and mode of administration.
