Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) in the legalization of same-sex marriage in Austria in 2019. In this study the author will discuss the role of the ILGA in the legalization of same-sex marriage in Austria. Europe became the first continent to legalize same-sex marriage. Europe has created several laws and norms to focus on LGBT related issues. The concept used by the author is the role of Non-Government Organizations in legalizing same-sex marriage in Austria, because this variable has a focus with the aim of carrying out various activities such as promotions and campaigns and collaboration with LGBT associations in Austria. The research method used by the author is a qualitative method, which has the aim of providing facts in the form of words related to the problems studied. The data that the authors take is based on several sources, namely through literature studies and online data searches. The results of the study show that ILGA is one of the Non-Government Organizations that provides support and campaigns for resolutions related to sexual orientation as a human right. The NGO variable has three parameters including Catalysts, Implementers, and Partners. Through these variables, the authors find out what activities are carried out by the ILGA to gain support and influence other factors in the legalization of same-sex marriage in Austria. Some of the activities that have been carried out by ILGA such as skills development activities, providing grants to assist with communication work, and establishing various platforms and methods to learn from and share experiences. ILGA also has a role as a liaison and supporter of organizations that support LGBT people in Austria, one of which is HOSI Wien.
