Abstract

Temporomandibular joint disorder is a condition of changes function condyle disc form derangements of the condyle disc, structural incompatibility of the articular surfaces, and inflammatory disorder s of the temporomandibular joint, thereby reducing normal function of temporomandibular joint. The purpose of this study to determine the frequency of temporomandibular joint disorder in Dental Polyclinic dr.A.K.Gani Hospital Palembang in the period 2011 to 2015 based on age, gender, location of joints involved, and management. This type of research is descriptive survey. Sampling was conducted at the Medical Records Unit and Dental Polyclinic dr. A.K.Gani Hospital Palembang period January 2011 — December 2015. The result of this research showed the total cases of temporomandibular joint disorders were 66 cases. Frequency of temporomandibular joint disorders by age is most prevalent in the age group of 14-20 years were 20 cases (30,3%) and least in the age group 56-62 years were 4 cases (6,06%). More common in women 43 cases (65,1%) than men 23 cases (34,9%). Unilateral temporomandibular joint disorders are more prevalent with 45 cases (68,18%) compared to bilateral temporomandibular joint disorders 21 cases (31,82%). Management of temporomandibular joint disorders conducted in Dental Polyclinic dr. A.K.Gani Hospital Palembang period 2011 - 2015 included training, hot compresses, medication, reconstruction, intramuscular injection, and panoramic x-rays. It is concluded that the incidence of temporomandibular joint disorders occur most commonly in adolescent, aged 14 — 20 years with female patients experienced unilateral temporomandibular joint disorders and training is an option in management of temporomandibular joint disorders in Dental Polyclinic dr. A.K.Gani Hospital Palembang.
