Abstract

Chia Seed Oil (Salvia Hispanica L) contains bioactive compounds that are antioxidants, including flavonoids and several high fatty acids, namely linolenic acid, linoleic acid, including oleic acid, palmitoleic acid, eicosanic acid, and palmitic acid. This study aims to determine the concentration of chia seed oil in nanoemulsion preparations that have the best antioxidant activity and then analyzed using the SPSS® 16 Shapiro-Wilk program. Chia seed oil was formulated into a nanoemulsion dosage form using various concentrations of chia seed oil 5%, 8%, 10%, and 15% by adding Tween 80 with a concentration of 40% as a surfactant and Sorbitol with a concentration of 20% as a cosurfactant. Physical evaluation of nanoemulsion preparations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, specific gravity, viscosity, type of nanoemulsion, and percent transmittance. Physical stability tests include cycling test and centrifugation. The best formula concentration was obtained in formula 1 and 2 with 5% oil concentration having an IC50 of 2.32 μg/mL and 8% of 2,27 which showed the highest antioxidant activity with a very strong category and Vitamin C samples with an IC50 value of 1.94 μg/mL and Vitamin E with a IC50 of 3.35 μg/mL which is included in the very strong antioxidant category. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the IC50 of sacha inchi oil nanoemulsion preparations did not differ significantly from the IC50 results of Vitamin C and Vitamin E. The sacha inchi oil nanoemulsion preparations had lower antioxidant activity compared to vitamin C and had higher antioxidant activity than vitamins E as a comparison.
