Abstract
Background: Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a baby born with a birth weight of less than 2,500 grams, which is divided into 2 categories, namely: LBW caused by premature birth (age less than 37 weeks) and LBW born with KMK (Small Pregnancy Period) babies born at term with less than normal body weight. Lack of weight can affect the nutritional status of the baby. Interventions that can be is massage. Stimulation by massaging the vagus nerve tone (X-nerve) can also increase the absorption of gastrin and insulin by means of better food absorption and faster body weight increase. Increased activity of the vagus nerve will cause the baby to get hungry quickly which will stimulate the sucking reflex and will breastfeed more often from its mother. Objective: Describes the implementation of nursing care practices for children with low birth weight (LBW) and applying massage therapy for weight gain. Method: Descriptive qualitative with a case study approach in three pediatric patients with Low Birth Weight (LBW) Results:The nursing problem that arose and which was addressed by the three patients was the risk of nutritional deficits as evidenced by the reluctance to eat because the sucking reflex was weak. Nursing interventions for the risk of nutritional deficits are nutritional management by monitoring body weight and massage therapy by tactile and kinestheti Conclusion: The nursing care provided to the three managed patients starts from assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The implications of applying massage therapy to children with LBW can increase body weight. Keywords: Baby Massage, Low Birth Weight (LBW)
