Abstract
Drug abuse among adolescents is a complex problem and must be addressed immediately. The number of cases of drug abuse in adolescents is increasing every year. Teenage boys are teenagers who do the most drug abuse compared to teenage girls. Therefore this study aims to determine the factors that influence drug abuse behavior in teenage boys in the city of Palembang so that effective prevention can be carried out. This study uses a case-control design with quantitative research methods. The data collection technique in this study was purposive sampling with a total sample of 222 male adolescent respondents at the Class I Palembang Special Development Institute for Children (LPKA). Samples in the case group and control group were 111 respondents each. The research instrument used a questionnaire/questionnaire. Data analysis was performed univariate, bivariate using the chi-square statistical test, and multivariate using the multiple logistic regression test using the predictive model. The results of the bivariate analysis in this study indicate that there are several variables related to drug abuse behavior in male adolescents in the city of Palembang, namely intention as a protective factor (p-value=0.014; OR=0.441; CI=0.235-0.821), self-concept as a risk factor (p-value=0.000; OR=5.929; CI=2.603-13.507), influence or emotions as a risk factors (p-value=0.039; OR=2.049; CI=1.080-3.885), salience of behavior as a protective factor (p-value=0.001; OR=0.207; CI=0.081-0.530), and environmental constraints as a protective factor (p-value=0.011; OR=0.277; CI=0.106-0.722) while the variables that are not related are beliefs behavior, social norms, knowledge, self-efficacy, and habits. The results of the multivariate analysis found that the intention variable is the variable that most influences drug abuse behavior in teenage boys in Palembang City (OR=2.549; CI = 1.006-6.455), which means that respondents with strong intentions have a 2.549 times higher chance of becoming drug abusers compared to respondents with weak intentions. Therefore we need activities that can build and provide an understanding of the attitudes and beliefs of adolescents to avoid drugs.
