Abstract
The increased accumulation ofplaque in smokers due to substances which consist in cigarettes may effects in gingival status and may increasing incidence of gingivitis. This research was conducted to asses the influence of smoking tobacco in gingival status by measuring oral hygiene status (OHI-S), gingival status (GI), and periodontal status (CPITN) in 90 man 20-40 years old who categorized in to 3 groups, non smokers, <10 cigar/day smokers, and >10 cigar/day smokers at Kelurahan Sukajaya. Based on T-test statistical analysis, the results are GI score of non smokers (0,11 ±0,09) is lower than <10 cigar/day smoker (0,36±0,23) and lower than >10 cigar/day smokers (1,15±0,15). So, there were significance relation between smoking tobacco and gingivitis. In conclusion, smoking can increase the risk of gingivitis.
