Abstract

Plaque accumulation on internal surface of denture is a common problem among removahle denture wearers. Candida albicans is one oj micoorganisms that be isolated from denture plaque. Poor denture cleanliness can increase colonization of Candida albicans and can cause inflammatory reaction of denturebearing mucosa, denture stomatitis. The aim of this cross-sectional stduy was tofind out the effect of denture cleanliness level on denture stomatitis in a group of removahle denture wearers who received prosthodontic treatment at Poliklinik Gigi RSMH Palembang. 30 subjects were selected by purposive sampling method. Denture cleanliness level was assesed with disclosing solution to disclose denture plaque on internal surface of denture and cleanliness level was graded according to Budtz- Jorgensen (Excellent, pair, poor). Intraoral examination was done to see any visible sign of denture stomatitis. Data were analyzed using the Komolgorov-sminorov tes t. Result of the study showed that 40% subjects had poor denture cleanliness of upper denture and 33,3% subjects had poor denture cleanliness of lower denture. Denture stomatitis was observed only on maxillary denture-bearing mucosa in 43,3% subjects. Komolgorov-smirnov test showed that there was a signijicant effect (pvalue< 0,05) of denture cleanliness level on denture stomatitis on maxillary denturebearing mucosa. It can be concluded that there was an effect of denture cleanliness level on denture stomatitis on maxillary denture bearing-mucosa in a group of removable denture wearers who received prosthodontic treatment at Poliklinik Gigi RSMH Palembang.
