Abstract

Caries is the illness of dental hard tissue that causes a cavity to be formed on the surface of the tooth because of the destruction of the tissue. This case is known as demineralization or the melted of calcium phosphat on enamel and dentin structures by acid products that produced by plaque microorganism. Caries is the most common illness that happens to a human being. Caries that happened to a patient can be influenced by behavior. Therefor, it is required to do the research about the correlation between mother’s characteristic, knowledge, and attitude with dental caries m children. This research represent correlative decriptive survey with cross sectional approach, where the population is the first grade students of elementary school 2 Palembang. The processing data which is used in this research is computerized system and analyzed by univariate and bivariate. The result of this research is that from all independent variables, one of them did not have correlation with dental caries in children which is the mother’s job variable. While mother’s age, education, knowledge, and attitude variables did have correlation with dental caries in children. The conclusion of this research is that caries incidents at the first grade students in elementary school 2 Palembang are influenced by mother’s age, education, knowledge, and attitude variables. However, different from the mother’s job variable that did not have correlation with caries incidents at the first grade students in elementary school 2 Palembang.
