Abstract
In the era of globalization, technological developments are increasingly advanced, such as social media. Social media is a place to share or share content, be it photos, videos or messages. Through social media, adolescents find information about body standards that are considered ideal so that they have an impact on body dissatisfaction behavior. Body dissatisfaction is dissatisfied behavior with one's body shape, whether it is size, weight, skin color, shape of one limb, or certain parts. During adolescence there are many changes physically, psychologically, emotionally. The task of adolescent development is to be able to accept their condition and physical condition and use their body effectively. This study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of social media use and body dissatisfaction in students. The type of research used is quantitative with a cross-sectional research design. The sample in this study used the probability sampling method with the cluster random sampling technique according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, amounting to 239 respondents. The instruments used were a questionnaire on the intensity of social media use and a body shape questionnaire. The results of the statistical test analysis using chi square obtained a p value = 0.019, which means that there is a relationship between the intensity of social media use and body dissatisfaction in students. The intensity of using social media has a 67% risk of experiencing body dissatisfaction. Efforts to handle body dissatisfaction through bibliocounseling, health promotion or focus group therapy.
