Abstract

Cestrum nocturnum leaves have approved to prevent the growth of Streptococcus mutans because i t contains flavonoid Flavonoids are phenolic t hal have abilitv to denaturized protein. The purpose of this study to assess that cestrum nocturnum leaves have antibacterial effect on Streptococcus mutans. The melhod of this research i s laboratory experimental with Pos t Test Only Control design. The sample was isolated of Streptococcus mutans which consist of control group was aquades and ampicilin and treatment group was extract of Cestrum nocturnum lecn>es 1%, 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12%. The data analyzed with One Way ANOVA parametric statistic and Post Hoc Test (p < 0,05). The result of this study showed that extract of Cestrum nocturnum leaves with concentration 1% and 3% ha\>e weaked inhibitory power and at concentration 6%, 9%, and 12% have moderated inhibitory power. There are different significancies in every concentration of extracl of Cestrum nocturnum leaves. The conclusions that, extract of Cestrum nocturnum lecrves hcrve antibacterial effect on Streptococcus mutans. Further research should be conducted on Cestrum nocturnum leaves in in vivo and examinated against the other pathogen bacteria.
