Abstract

Siri marriage is still a topic of corversation in society today, not a few favour unregistered marrige, and not a few are at war. The practice of unregistered marriage which will cause many problems in the future is still widely practised, as happenned in Kampung Nelayan II, Sungailiat District. This research is analyzed using the theory of phenomenology from Alfred Schutz. This research method is qualitative by using a phenomenological strategy. The data collection used in this study was non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with 11 (eleven) informants and documentation in the form of photographs with several informants. The result of this study indicate that girls motive to carry out unregistered marriages the causative motive, namely pregnancy out of wedlock, middle to lower economic factors, low education, and not being old enough. The reasons for carrying out unregistered marriages are avoiding adultery, better living strandards, and societal traditional. From this motive, awareness arises; awareness is divided into 3: the understanding of girls carrying out unregistered marriage, collective understanding of those who carry out unregistered marriages, and understanding from the community. Based on the description of the unregistered marriage about the awarness possessed by girls, the meaning is obtained from the girls having unregistered marriages. The purpose of daughters in carrying out unregistered marriages is because it has become a habit in a society where many parents still match their children or marry off their children even though their children are old enough.
