Abstract

Petai is one of the plants that have high antioxidant power. High antioxidants are known to potentially act as enzyme inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase, which is one of the causes of Alzheimer's. Antioxidants play a role through cholinesterase and beta amyloid pathways by inhibiting ROS (reactive oxygen species), thereby reducing the breakdown of acetylcholine by acetylcholinesterase enzymes, reducing the production of amyloid precursor proteins, and inhibiting amyloid beta aggregation that can alleviate Alzheimer's symptoms. The study was conducted to find out how anti Alzheimer activity of ethanol extract of petai pods as in vitro test . This research conducted include the standardidation of extracts which aims to determine the quality of the extract used, the determination of total phenolic and flavonoids extract, IC50 antioxidants, and % inhibition of acetylcholinesterase enzyme. Research gives results that the extract has good quality and meets the standardization requirements of the extract. Total phenolics obtained were 272.45 mg/g gallic acid, total flavonoid of extract is 243.2029 mg/g, IC50 antioxidant petai pods is 75.72 μg/mL, and % inhibition of acetylcholinesterase enzyme is 28.49%.
