Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing a case-based learning-oriented learning design on students' critical thinking skills at SMPN 1 Indralaya. This study used a quasi-experimental design research in the form of a nonequivalent kontrol group design. The population of this research was all of class VII with research samples of class VII B as the experimental class and VII A as the kontrol class, totaling 66 people were taken using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques used are documentation techniques, observation and tests. The results showed that the t-test analysis test obtained a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 <0.005, so Ha was accepted, Ho was rejected which indicated that there were differences in the critical thinking skills of the experimental class and the kontrol class. Differences occur because there are different treatments, where the experimental class is treated using a case-based learning-oriented learning design that has an average critical thinking ability of 75% which is included in the critical category. Meanwhile, the kontrol class was treated using the controversial issue model, which had an average critical thinking ability of 68%, which was included in the moderately critical category. Based on the results of research conducted by researchers, it can be concluded that the implementation of case-based learning-oriented learning designs has an influence on students' critical thinking skills in class VII Civics subjects at SMPN 1 Indralaya.
